Proud to be part of milestone
I have been with The Times Dispatch since 1998 and marked my 11th anniversary with the newspaper in May. It does not seem possible that 11 years have passed since I first walked through the TD doors, and I can't help but wonder if all 100 years of the newspaper's existence have passed as quickly.
We often say that as we finish one paper, we begin the next, and perhaps that makes the weeks, and the years, seem to go by even quicker. Nonetheless, I cannot imagine anywhere I would rather be than working here, serving the people of Lawrence County, as The TD marks its 100th year of publication.
I am awed to be able to be a part of such a wonderful history and am proud to be a member of such a fine staff. I cannot imagine having a better boss than John Bland, and I cannot imagine working for a better family.
I have enjoyed working with and becoming friends with the people of Lawrence County and was so happy to visit with many at the Business After Hours event on Thursday in celebration of The TD's 100th year of publication.
The special section in this edition, a tribute to The TD and the Bland family, was created by The TD staff with help from former staffers and support from area businesses, as a surprise for the Bland family.
Hearing the nice comments shared about both the newspaper and the Blands made me realize all the more that I am in the right place.
