Frankly speaking...The TD recently received a nice note from Isabel (Mrs. L.L.) Cochran of Piggott. Mrs. Cochran, wrote, "I was a long-time resident of Lawrence County, and my mother, Mrs. Joe Belk, was a faithful writer to your paper. I am 102 years old but still look forward to The Times." Mrs. Cochran has several Walnut Ridge and Hoxie relatives and taught school in Hoxie for many years. We believe she is the oldest living graduate of both Hoxie High School and Arkansas State University.
The Rails to Trails path through Hoxie and Walnut Ridge gives a whole different perspective on the towns. My sister, Beth, of Brooklyn, NY, is an avid walker and was on the trail the first day she arrived here for a visit.
Walking the entire paved trail, from the trailhead in Hoxie at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks, through Walnut Ridge, almost to Hwy. 67B North, took us about 40 minutes. I was surprised how quickly the time passed. Familiar landmarks looked surprisingly different when viewed from the trail.
