Duncan to be write-in candidate
Danny Duncan of Walnut Ridge has filed as a write-in candidate for a Walnut Ridge position on the Lawrence County School Board, according to County Clerk Tina Stowers.
Duncan filed after the regular filing period had ended, but he qualified as a write-in candidate because that deadline extended a week longer, Stowers said.
As a write-in candidate, Duncan's name will not appear on the ballot and must be written in using a paper ballot, Stowers said. “We've never done this before,” she added.
Duncan will face incumbent candidate Terry Kelley for the board position, a five-year term.
Schools with no contested board elections or millage tax increase proposals can hold their elections through early and absentee voting only. Those with contested races will hold elections on Sept. 15, the designated date of school elections in Arkansas. Because Duncan filed as a write-in, voting on that position will be held through early and absentee voting and on election day.
The Hoxie School District will also be holding a regular election as four candidates have filed for a seat on that school board, as previously announced.
