Hoxie to purchase fire truckThe City of Hoxie will receive $50,000 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to purchase a fire truck.
U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives Marion Berry and Mike Ross recently announced that communities across Arkansas would receive a total of $911,000 to purchase police cars, fire trucks and other needed equipment.
"These funds will provide our communities with much-needed resources to help keep Arkansans safe," Lincoln said.
Hoxie Mayor Donnie Roberts said the grant money will be used to purchase a used tanker truck to replace a truck that was totaled when it overturned while responding to a call.
He said the $50,000 will be added to an insurance settlement received on the old truck. Roberts said the purchase will be made when the funds are received.
"During these difficult economic times, many rural local communities have stretched their resources thin," Berry said.
"Having reliable transportation and tools is essential."
The economic recovery funds are provided through USDA Rural Development's Community Facilities Program, which helps finance and develop essential community facilities for public use in rural areas.
