PICNIC MARKS FOURTH ~ Abigail Brown (front), four, and Cailyn Brown, five, daughters of Allan and Jenny Brown of Walnut Ridge, enjoy the motorcycle ride at the Portia Picnic on Saturday. The annual picnic was one of several celebrations held throughout the county to mark Independence Day. Fireworks displays in Walnut Ridge and Hoxie were also held over the weekend.

After the Walnut Ridge Golf Club and the Walnut Ridge Regional Airport Commission appeared to have reached an agreement to settle their two-year battle over the airport's safety zones, negotiations between them apparently broke down last week. The golf club's attorney, C.W. Knauts, filed a Notice of Appeal and Designation of Record on their behalf on Thursday.
