HEAT WAVE BRINGS IN SUMMER ~ Evan Richey, age 11, of Walnut Ridge swims for a beach ball at the city pool at Stewart Park on a recent afternoon. He, along with Christopher Dimitriou, 11, also of Walnut Ridge, enjoyed tossing the ball. Temperatures in the high 90s and with a heat index of 105 degrees arrived a few days before the official start of summer.

Craighead Electric to
receive FEMA funds

Craighead Electric Cooperative Corporation will receive $13,598,307 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), according to U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Rep. Marion Berry. The funds are to be used to help with repairs and cleanup from the January ice storm.

Accident claims one life

An automobile accident on Saturday evening resulted in the death of a Hoxie man, according to Trooper Anthony Dial of the Arkansas State Police.

Nice boy finishes first:
Burgin honored for kindness

Chaz Burgin received several awards at the Walnut Ridge (Ben R. Bush) Elementary School Awards Night June 2, but one award meant more to him than any other. It was an award given by classmate Jake Hollister for simply being his true friend.
