SATURDAY IN THE PARK ~ Five-year-old Cody Colburn of Walnut Ridge spends time with Lucy the dog, courtesy of Lucy's owner, Charles Bratcher. Cody and Lucy were both at Stewark Park on Saturday. Cody was with his mom, Suzy Colburn, and younger brother, Dylan. Many Lawrence Countians have welcomed the summer season and all the outdoor activities that go with it. The first official day of summer is Sunday.

U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Rep. Marion Berry have announced that the City of Hoxie will receive $238,939 in Rural Development funds from the United States Department of Agriculture.

Shelter is full, volunteers sought
The Children's Shelter opened June 1 after receiving its Arkansas State license May 26, and volunteers are needed to help. The shelter is currently filled to its 12-child capacity and has a waiting list, said Judy Turnbull, chair of the shelter's board.
