Frankly speaking...Amber Hampton, administrator of The Children's Shelter in Walnut Ridge, said that the shelter opened as planned on Monday afternoon. As of Tuesday afternoon, the shelter was providing temporary housing for four children. The shelter received its license from the state on Tuesday of last week. The Children's Shelter started as a vision early in 2006 because of the growing number of displaced children. Judy Turnbull, local advocate for children, was a leading force in establishing a shelter. To contact the shelter call 886-5191 or e-mail childrensshelter@yahoo.com.
Renee and I and several other parents had the opportunity recently to join Walnut Ridge School seventh graders and their teachers on a field trip to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum in Little Rock. The day also included lunch in the River Market area and ice skating and/or roller skating. We had visited the museum before, but this time a retired teacher guided our complete tour and provided lots of interesting information. The museum also features exhibits that change from time to time.
