The gallery of the Lawrence County Library in Walnut Ridge is showcasing a special exhibit thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The Picturing America display is being distributed to schools and libraries across the country through the grant program.

Bids accepted for projects
The Arkansas Highway Commission opened bids on May 20 for several projects, including two in Lawrence County. The projects are being funded through the economic stimulus package.

Youth to work at hospital
The Board of Governors for Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Lawrence Hall Nursing Center learned at its May 18 meeting that LMH plans to work 17 individuals through the Workforce Development Summer Youth Program.

Williams' essay wins honor
Lawrence Memorial Hospital recently received the honor of being chosen as one of three hospitals in the United States to receive the 2009 Celebrating Nursing Award from Joint Commission Resources, the accreditation agency for Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

City of WR hosts fishing derby
The City of Walnut Ridge hosted the 10th annual Fishing Derby held at Stewart Park Saturday morning. The catfish must have been hungry Saturday morning because the three-year-olds to 12-year-olds were reeling them in left and right with smiles aglow.
