Bobcats' season ends
with second-round loss

The Walnut Ridge Bobcats baseball season came to an end with a 9-2 loss to the defending state champion Woodlawn Bears in the second round of the Class 2A State Tournament on May 4 at Pine Bluff.

Brandon Dawson's two-run double in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the Bobcats to a 3-2 first-round win over Union Christian on May 1.
Heath Kennedy reached first base on a bunt single to lead off the fifth inning for the Cats. Kennedy advanced to second on a groundout by Curtis Jackson and William Wilcoxson was intentionally walked to set the stage for Dawson's hit.
Union Christian loaded the bases with no one out in the seventh inning, but hit into a double play and a flyout to end the game.
Dawson also earned a complete-game victory on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits, with seven strikeouts.
