Izard County Consolidated defeated Hillcrest 6-2 in the finals of the 1A-2 East District Softball Tournament on April 21 at Black Rock.
The contest was scoreless until ICC tallied two runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Lady Cougars extended their lead to 5-0 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lady Screamin' Eagles tried to get back in the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut ICC's advantage to 5-2. That was as close as Hillcrest would get, as ICC added a run in the bottom of the inning, then held the Lady Eagles without a run in the top of the seventh to claim the win.
Natalie Johnson and Lauren Pickle each had a hit and scored a run for the Lady Screamin' Eagles. Kelli Beasley had a hit and an RBI. Miranda Doyle, Breanna Doyle and Kayla McBride also had hits.
Samantha Blevins took the pitching loss, surrendering six runs (three of which were unearned) on only two hits. She also struck out nine and walked 11.
