Bobcats are district champs

Walnut Ridge defeated Midland 11-1 Monday at Cotter to claim the championship of the 2A-2 District Baseball Tournament.
The Bobcats got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the first inning, with the big hit being a three-run home run by Paul Rainwater.
Also for Walnut Ridge, William Wilcoxson had two hits and three RBIs. Luke Holloway added three hits, and Rob Rainwater had two.
Brandon Dawson pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing just two hits and recording nine strikeouts.
Walnut Ridge will host the 2A North Regional Tournament, beginning Saturday. The Bobcats will be the top seed in the tournament and will play their first game on Saturday at 10 a.m.

An eight-run second inning propelled Walnut Ridge to a 14-2 win over Sloan-Hendrix in the semifinals of the district tournament on Saturday at Cotter.
Wilcoxson, Dawson and Chris Dickson each had two hits for the Bobcats. Paul Rainwater pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts.
S-H ~ Salem
The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds shut out Salem 10-0 in district tournament play on Friday. The win clinched a berth in the regional tournament for the Greyhounds.
For Sloan-Hendrix, David Higginbotham went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Colton Witt batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Justus Williams and Chase DeJournett had two RBIs apiece.
