Lee Grogan (left) and Robert Grogan, members of Champions Gymnastics Center in Paragould, have both qualified for the 2009 National Championships.
They are the sons of Bill and Sharon Grogan of Paragould and the grandsons of Sue Broughton, of Jonesboro and formerly of Walnut Ridge, and the late Bob Broughton.
Both of the Grogans qualified for the 2009 National Championships with their performances. The Region 3 competition included 530 gymnasts from Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
Region 3 has consistently produced more Olympians than any other region. Thirty-three percent of the U.S. mens gymnastics team competing in Beijing were from Region 3.
Lee Grogan competes in Level 9 for ages 12-13. He placed third on floor, sixth on pommel horse, fourth on vault, sixth on parallel bars, fourth on high bar and fourth in the all around.
Robert Grogan competes in Level 10 for ages 14-15. He finished 14th on floor, 18th on rings, 10th on vault and 19th in the all around.
The Grogans, along with teammate Riley Adams qualified for the 2009 National Championships. This is the first time in Arkansas gymnastics that the state will have three gymnasts representing it in the national competition.
Lee Grogan, having placed fourth in the all around, earned a spot on the prestigious Region 3 team. The team consists of the top six gymnasts and will represent Region 3 as a team in the National Championships. This is the second year in a row Lee has earned this honor.
The National Championships will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio, May 5-10. The boys are coached by Darrin Grogan.
