WR cleanup underwayThe city of Walnut Ridge's spring cleanup is underway, according to Street Department Superintendent Jim Poindexter.
The cleanup began on Monday and will continue through April 25. Residents are asked to put their items near the road for pickup.
Poindexter said there will be crews doing both spring cleanup and ice storm debris removal.
The city of Hoxie was expected to set a date for its cleanup at Tuesday night's council meeting. Extensive cleanup following the ice storm has caused the cleanup to be postponed. It is expected to be set for some time in May.
The Northeast Arkansas Regional Solid Waste Management District is providing a "Free Dump Day at the Landfill," on April 25 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the landfill in Paragould.
The day is for residents of the district, which includes Lawrence County.
Pickup trucks, cars, vans and trailers will be allowed. Contractors and other "for hire" businesses are not permitted. Only solid waste may be dumped. Liquids, medical waste and hazardous waste are not allowed.
Unwanted appliances, computers, office machines and other recyclable materials will be accepted, but must be separated from other items to be buried.
Each individual may bring four passenger tires per year at no charge. Although each county has a waste tire collection center, tires from residents of the district will be accepted at the district's landfill during the free day. Charges will apply to any semi-truck or large farm tires.
The district's free day abides by federal and state rules for landfilling and recycling operations. The workers may not assist in the unloading process, so be sure to bring assistance if needed. Participants in the free day are asked to please tarp and secure loads.
The event is being offered to assist district residents with spring cleaning and will take place rain or shine
