Hillcrest boys are county champs

Hillcrest's Marcus Huskey slides in safe as Bobcat Logan Gaither guards the base during the finals of the Lawrence County Baseball Tournament on Saturday. The Screamin' Eagles defeated Walnut Ridge 11-7 to win the championship.

Hillcrest's offense exploded for eight runs in the final two innings, as the Screamin' Eagles rallied to defeat Walnut Ridge 11-7 in the championship game of the 2009 Lawrence County Baseball Tournament Saturday at Strawberry. The loss ended Walnut Ridge's run of 13 consecutive county tournament titles.

Hillcrest got on the scoreboard first, with two runs in the top of the first to take an early 2-0 lead.

Walnut Ridge's Paul Rainwater tied the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. The Bobcats then capitalized on Hillcrest errors to plate two more runs in the inning for a 4-2 lead.

Eagles win title

The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles claimed their first ever county softball title with an 8-3 victory over defending champion Walnut Ridge in the championship game of the 2009 Lawrence County Softball Tournament on Saturday at Lynn.
