WR cleanup progressingGloria WilkersonStaff Writer Walnut Ridge City Council voted not to hire a contractor for the job of cleaning up the city's ice storm debris after opening bids on April 2. The city has, however, hired some outside help to assist the street department in clearing the remaining debris, according to Mayor Michelle Rogers. "Approximately 80 percent of the city has been cleared by the first sweep of the street department," Rogers said. "The southwest section of town has not yet had a first sweep, but we expect that to be completed within the next two weeks." A second sweep of the city will then be done to complete the cleanup process. She said that Street Superintendent Jim Poindexter and his crew have done a tremendous job in the past few weeks. "We still have some hanging limbs that need cutting, and the city is advertising for bids for that job," said Rogers.
