Hillcrest girls record wins
The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles defeated the Mammoth Spring Lady Bears 12-7 in the first game of a softball doubleheader on Friday at Mammoth Spring.
With the Lady Bears leading 6-5 after three innings, Hillcrest struck for five runs in the top of the fourth to move into a 10-6 lead. Mammoth Spring cut the lead to 10-7 in the bottom of the inning, but the Lady Eagles added two runs in the top of the fifth to set the final score.
Samantha Blevins led the Hillcrest offense, with two home runs and five RBIs. Lauren Pickle had two hits and three RBIs, and Stevie Howard batted 3-for-3 and scored two runs.
Blevins earned the pitching win, allowing six earned runs on five hits.
A seven-run second inning propelled Hillcrest to a 13-6 win in the nightcap.
For Hillcrest, Breanna Doyle had two RBIs and scored four runs. Kayla McBride had a hit, two RBIs and scored a run. Kellie Beasley contributed two hits and an RBI. Pickle and Blevins each had a hit and an RBI, and Stevie Howard had an RBI.
Blevins earned her second pitching win of the day.
The Lady Screamin' Eagles remained undefeated at 4-0, with all four wins coming in 1A-2 East conference play.
The Hillcrest softball team defeated Izard County Consolidated 6-2 on March 16 at Brockwell.
The Lady Screamin' Eagles led 2-1 after the first inning and added their third run in the top of the fifth. Hillcrest then broke open the close game with three runs in the sixth inning for a 6-1 advantage. ICC plated one run in the bottom of the seventh to set the final score.
Blevins pitched a complete game and surrendered just two hits, while striking out 10.
The Lady Cougars' pitching limited Hillcrest to two hits, as well. Beasley had one hit and an RBI, and Natalie Johnson had a hit. Pickle drove in two runs, while Breanna Doyle and Blevins each drove in a run.
The Lady Screamin' Eagles defeated Black Rock 11-1 on March 10 at Black Rock.
Hillcrest put the game out of reach early, with an eight-run first inning. The Lady Zebras scored a run in the bottom of the first, but Hillcrest added two runs in the third inning and one in the fifth to end the game due to the 10-run rule.
For Hillcrest, Johnson batted 3-for-3 with two RBIs and scored two runs. Miranda Doyle had a hit and scored three runs. Breanna Doyle, Pickle, Blevins and McBride each had one hit, one RBI and scored a run. Elaina Pankey recorded a hit and a run,
and Howard had a hit and an RBI.
Blevins pitched all five innings, allowing one run on four hits and recording seven strikeouts.
For Black Rock, Alex Ford had a hit and an RBI. Stephanie Bagwell, Bethany Erwin and Brittany Burrow each had a hit, and Hailey Slusser scored a run.
