Hoxie girls drop close
game to Marmaduke
The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds staged a late rally to nip Hoxie 9-8 in high school softball Friday at Marmaduke.
With Hoxie leading 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Hounds plated two runs to force extra innings. The Lady Mustangs scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to regain the lead 8-6, only to see Marmaduke rally for three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the win.
For Hoxie, Cayley Rosson batted 2-for-5 and scored three runs. Brittany Holt went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Kelsey Dobbs had a double and scored three runs. Brianna Liscomb recorded three hits, and Courtney Jones had two hits. Chelsea Rosson, Shayla Coats and Kelli Anglin each had a hit.
Dobbs was the starting pitcher for Hoxie and allowed nine runs on nine hits in eight innings of work. She also recorded nine strikeouts.
The Lady Mustangs dropped both games of a doubleheader at Brookland on Thursday.
Brookland won the first game 6-1.
Cayley Rosson singled home Erin Strong with Hoxie's only run of the game.
Dobbs took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs on two hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.
Brookland defeated Hoxie 13-1 in the nightcap.
Cayley Rosson scored the Lady Mustangs' run.
Lindsey Woods had a double for Hoxie, while Chelsea Rosson and Holt each had singles.
Dobbs took the loss on the mound.
The Manila Lady Lions defeated Hoxie 11-1 in the first game of a softball doubleheader at Manila on March 17.
Manila earned a sweep of a softball doubleheader with a 23-4 win over Hoxie in the nightcap.
After eight games, Chelsea Rosson leads the Lady Mustangs in hitting with a .400 batting average. Jones and Liscomb are each batting .375.
