Local teams advance to regionals

Several Lawrence County teams will be in action this week as the high school basketball season heads into regional tournament play.

County foes Black Rock and Hillcrest will square off in both the boys and girls brackets of the Class 1A Region 2 tournament on Thursday at Bay. The Lady Zebras and Lady Screamin' Eagles will tip off at 4 p.m., while the Hillcrest and Black Rock boys will play at 8 p.m.

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats will play Riverside on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Class 2A North Region tournament hosted by Cedar Ridge High School at Newark. Following that game, the Walnut Ridge boys will face Turrell at 5:30 p.m.

The Hoxie boys will compete in the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament at Bergman. The Mustangs will face Mountain View today at 5:30 p.m.
