Screamin' Eagles are
district runners-up

The Hillcrest senior high boys and girls basketball teams competed in the 1A-2 North District Tournament last week at Brockwell.

The Hillcrest boys reached the finals before falling to the Mammoth Spring Bears 65-51 in Saturday's championship game.

The Bears led 27-24 at halftime and 38-28 after three periods.

Derek Wooten led Hillcrest with 14 points.


The Screamin' Eagles earned a spot in the finals with a 54-51 win over Norfork on Thursday.

Jordan Hunter led the Eagles with 20 points, and Trevor Morgan had 16.

The Calico Rock Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Screamin' Eagles 73-59, despite 29 points from Hillcrest's Breanna Doyle. Natalie Johnson added 14 points for the Lady Eagles.


Both of Hillcrest's teams earned victories on the tournament's opening night on Feb. 17.

In the boys division, Derek Wooten scored 26 points to lead the Screamin' Eagles over Calico Rock 72-65. Hillcrest jumped ahead of the Pirates early, leading 29-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles continued to lead 43-29 at halftime and 58-45 after three periods.

Also for Hillcrest, Dylan Wooten scored 15 points, and Morgan added 11.

The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles advanced to Thursday's semifinals by defeating the host Izard County Consolidated Lady Cougars 67-51.

Doyle and Lauren Pickle each scored 14 points, and Tamara Evans had 13 for the Lady Eagles.
