Harthorn wins

Edward Harthorn, a seventh-grade student at Walnut Ridge School, is this year's Lawrence County Spelling Bee winner. He correctly spelled the word "longevity" to claim the win.
Sloan-Hendrix School in Imboden hosted the spelling bee on Thursday.
Jake Bigger, a seventh-grader at Hoxie, was runner-up, and Kelsey Morgan, a sixth-grade student at Black Rock, placed third overall.
Individual grade winners were as follows:
Sixth grade ~ Kelsey Morgan, Black Rock, first; Jonathon Frazier, Walnut Ridge, second; Caitlin Whitmire, Hillcrest, third.
Seventh grade ~ Edward Harthorn, Walnut Ridge, first; Jake Bigger, Hoxie, second; Garrett Crisler, Hoxie, third.
Eighth grade ~ Rebeckah Swink, Sloan-Hendrix, first; Corey Richey, Hillcrest, second; Range Weeks, Walnut Ridge, third.
Lawrence County Farm Bureau sponsored the prize money and awards presented at the bee.
Harthorn received $150 and a plaque as the overall winner. Bigger received $75 and a plaque for second, and Morgan received $50 and a plaque for third.
All grade winners received a certificate and cash awards of $25 for first place, $20 for second and $10 for third.
