sweep ICC teams
The Hillcrest basketball teams swept three games from Izard County Consolidated Feb. 4 at Strawberry.
Hillcrest wasted no time putting the Cougars away, racking up 29 points and building an 18-point lead in the opening quarter en route to a 62-45 victory.
Derek Wooten led Hillcrest with 21 points, including four three-pointers, and pulled down 10 rebounds. Dylan Wooten scored 11 points, and Trevor Morgan had 10 for the Eagles.
The Hillcrest senior boys improved to 3-6 in 1A-2 North Conference play and 14-9 overall.
The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles posted a 59-39 win over the ICC Lady Cougars.
Hillcrest led 29-22 at halftime and 49-33 after three quarters.
Breanna Doyle led the way for the Lady Eagles with 17 points and five assists. Natalie Johnson finished with 12 points. Lauren Pickle added 11, and Tamara Evans recorded 10 for Hillcrest.
The Lady Screamin' Eagles improved to 5-4 in the 1A-2 North Conference and 15-8 overall.
The Hillcrest junior high girls overcame an early deficit and went on to earn a 43-35 win.
ICC led 12-7 after one quarter, but the junior Eagles outscored their visitors 26-13 over the next two periods to take a 33-25 lead into the final period.
Hillcrest was led by Lindsey Crews with 13 points and eight steals. Mackenzie Nunnally contributed 12 points and seven rebounds. Sarah Saffell added six points. Morgan Penn and Kellie Beasley had five points each, and Shea Durham had two points.
The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles outlasted the Calico Rock Lady Pirates to win a 61-57 thriller on Feb. 2 at Calico Rock.
Calico Rock held a 15-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Eagles rallied to tie the game 24-24 at halftime.
The game continued to be close in the second half and the teams went into the fourth quarter tied 41-41. Hillcrest outscored the Lady Pirates 20-16 in the final period to claim the win.
Doyle scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Lady Eagles. Johnson had 17 points, and Pickle added 11.
The Calico Rock junior high girls defeated Hillcrest 44-29.
The junior Lady Pirates led 11-6 after the first quarter, 23-15 at halftime and 33-23 after three quarters.
Crews led Hillcrest with 15 points. Nunnally and Saffell each had four points. Durham, Penn and Beasley each added two points.
