Hoxie boys earn winsNathan HibbardStaff Writer The Hoxie Mustangs swept three games from the visiting Harrisburg Hornets in boys basketball action on Thursday.
The senior Mustangs defeated Harrisburg 68-61 in a close game that saw the teams swap the lead several times. Hoxie trailed 16-14 after the first quarter, but came back in the second period to gain a slim 30-29 halftime advantage. Harrisburg regained the lead at 49-48 at the end of the third quarter, but the Mustangs outscored the Hornets 20-12 in the final period to claim the victory. Morgan Puckett led Hoxie with 23 points. Beau Sisco and Cade Crisler each scored 12 points, and Justin Weitkamp added 11.
The junior Hornets were no match for Hoxie in the junior high boys game, as the junior Mustangs stampeded to a 62-17 win. Zach Crisler led Hoxie with 15 points. Devin Roberts added 11, and Hayden Defries tallied eight. Tyler Hall and Ryan Vaughn each scored six points.
The Hoxie seventh grade boys defeated Harrisburg 39-14 to conclude their season with a perfect 10-0 record. Dillon Cagle led Hoxie with 10 points, and Robert Vaughn had nine. Slade Sullens scored seven points, and Hunter Keeling added six. Other team members include Jake Ellis, Garrett Crisler, Kyle Wilson, Logan Minton, Mack Morris, Connor Roberts, Jake Bigger, Derek Woodard, Jake Hickman, Colby Clark and Drew Defries.
