Tom Lockwood and Jeff Brady, both of Hoxie, were among those assisting with cleanup efforts on Monday. Piles of brush could be seen everywhere in the towns of Walnut Ridge and Hoxie and throughout the county.

Ice leaves lasting effects
Cleanup has begun in the wake of the ice storm, which decimated most of Northeast Arkansas and left all of Lawrence County without power for the better part of a week. Electricity is gradually being restored throughout the county. Spokesmen for power suppliers said crews are working nonstop to reconnect their customers.

LHS goes above and beyond to meet
needs of community, patients and staff
Since the ice storm and power outages began early last week, Lawrence Health Services has been busy feeding the public, sheltering those with medical needs and keeping up with the regular needs of patients, residents and staff at the hospital and nursing home.

Shelters provided meals, lodging
While the ice storm left whole communities dark and cold for a week or longer, the ice was no match for the warmth and spirit shown by many groups and individuals. That spirit was probably most evident at the shelters set up to provide meals, lodging or both.
