Hoxie boys post winsThe Hoxie Mustangs traveled to Tuckerman Friday night and came home with two victories.
In senior high action, Hoxie raced out to a 28-12 lead at the end of the first period and extended their lead to 47-20 at the half. The Mustangs led 67-31 going into the final quarter of play and went on to win 70-46.
Orie Allen led Tuckerman with 11, and Chase Gates chipped in nine.
Hoxie had balanced scoring as Nate Ragsdell led with 12 points, Justin Weitkamp had 11 points and Cade Crisler recorded 10 points. Bradley Harp contributed nine points, and Morgan Puckett had eight.
The Mustangs improved to 12-2 overall and 9-0 in conference play.
In junior high action, Tuckerman and Hoxie were tied at 10 at the end of the first quarter. Tuckerman went ahead 20-17 at the half behind Spencer Shannon's 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Hoxie returned to the hardwood in the third period and captured a 31-29 lead. The Mustangs went on to win the game 44-40.
Shannon led Tuckerman with 17 points, followed by Zac McArthur with 12 and Cade Niswonger with nine.
Zach Crisler scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the second half. Devin Roberts added 12 as Hoxie improved to 10-2 overall and 8-1 in conference action.
Hoxie hosted Brookland on Jan. 13 as the Mustangs celebrated homecoming by putting three victories in the books.
In the senior high contest, Hoxie led Brookland 15-9 after one quarter and pushed the lead to 30-19 at the half. They continued to dominate going into the final quarter with a 52-39 lead en route to a 76-57 win.
Adrian Bowling led Brookland with 21 points.
Hoxie used a balanced scoring attack as Ragsdell led with 16, Weitkamp contributed 15, and Coy Yasler and Cade Crisler added 11 each.
In junior high action, Brookland took a 13-9 first-quarter lead behind Brett Davis' 10 points and extended the lead to 29-20 at the half. Hoxie held Brookland to four points in the third quarter and tied the game at 33-33 entering the final period of play. Hoxie went on to win 47-44.
Davis led Brookland with 22 points.
Zach Crisler led Hoxie with 20 points. Jacob Defries scored 14, and Tyler Hall added seven.
The Hoxie seventh grade boys jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the first quarter and extended their lead to 27-16 at the half. Hoxie pushed the lead to 41-26 after three periods behind Robert Vaughn's 15 points.
Brookland came storming back in the fourth period, outscoring Hoxie 17-4, but the Mustangs held on to win 45-43 and improved to 7-0 in the year.
Robert Vaughn led Hoxie in scoring with 15 points. Hunter Keeling added nine points, and Dillon Cagle and Slade Sullens each chipped in seven.
