FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE ~ Hoxie firefighters battle a blaze at a vacant house at the intersection of Park Avenue and Lawrence Road 504. The firefighters were paged to the scene at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday. The fire was fully involved upon arrival, and the house was a total loss. More photos can be seen at www.lawrencecounty.biz

Hoxie sets meeting on sanitation issue

The Hoxie City Council set a special meeting for Tuesday to make a final decision on the city's sanitation procedures. This meeting will conclude a effort to improve the cost-efficiency of the garbage pickup service provided to Hoxie residents.

The trash and sanitation needs of the city of Hoxie were explored by the Hoxie City Council at its Jan. 13 meeting.

WRPD to purchase new car

The Walnut Ridge Police Department will receive another police car following the city council's vote to purchase a second Dodge Charger at their regular council meeting on Jan. 14. Councilmen also voted on several ordinances and a resolution to apply for a sewer extension grant.

Tolson continues to make
a difference in Lawrence Co.

Some people are natural born leaders, and Bill Tolson is one of those individuals. He served his country during World War II, and at the age of 83 continues to serve his community as president of the Lawrence County Resource Council.
