Mustangs drop game in ClassicNathan Hibbard
The Corning Bobcats handed the Hoxie Mustangs their second loss of the season, 59-48, in the semifinals of the Kell Classic Saturday at Swifton.
Corning led 21-11 at the end of the first quarter and led by as many as 15 points in the second period, before taking a 33-21 lead into halftime.
The Bobcats held off a Hoxie rally in the second half, which saw the Mustangs close to within three with 58 seconds to play in the game.
Beau Sisco led Hoxie with a game-high 19 points.
The Mustangs dropped to 10-2 overall, with their only other loss coming to Corning in the semifinals of the WBC Tournament in December.
Hoxie moved to 7-0 in 3A-3 conference play with a 64-48 win at Manila Friday night.
The Mustangs took command of the game early, leading 21-9 at the end of the first quarter, 35-23 at halftime and 52-38 at the end of the third quarter. Morgan Puckettt and Justin Weitkamp scored 13 points apiece. Cade Crisler and Sisco each added 12 points.
The Hoxie junior high boys defeated Manila 43-30.
The junior Mustangs led 19-11 at the end of the first quarter and 35-17 at the half.
Zach Crisler led Hoxie with 17 points. Devin Roberts had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Hayden Defries pulled down seven rebounds.
The Hoxie seventh grade boys improved to 6-0 on the season with a 39-17 win over Manila.
The Mustangs led 16-4 at the half and 33-7 after three quarters.
Hoxie was led by Robert Vaughn with 10 points. Dillon Cagle had eight points. Mack Morris and Conner Roberts each added four points. Trumann
Nathan Ragsdell poured in 29 points to lead the Mustangs to a 73-69 victory over Trumann in the second round of the Kell Classic Thursday at Swifton. Puckett added 15 points for the Mustangs.
Hoxie hosted conference opponent Piggott on Jan. 6.
The Mustangs used a big second quarter to pull ahead 37-23 at the half and went on to win 80-59.
Hoxie was led by Puckett with 24 points, and Sisco with 18 points.
The Hoxie junior high boys defeated Piggott 45-28.
Hoxie led 10-9 after the first quarter 30-15 at the half and 38-16 after vthe third period.
Zach Crisler led Hoxie with 14 points, and Jacob Defries had 11. Devin Roberts and Sully Bigger added seven points each.
The Hoxie seventh grade boys defeated Piggott 32-17.
The Mustangs led 12-4 after the first quarter and held Piggott to one point in the second quarter. Hoxie led 32-12 after three periods.
Robert Vaughn led Hoxie with 20 points.
The Hoxie junior high boys traveled to Harrisburg on Dec. 19 and came out on top 58-33.
Hoxie led 12-7 after the first quarter, 27-14 at the half and 43-19 after three periods. Zach Crisler led all scorers with 23 points, and Brody Van Winkle added 10 for the junior Mustangs.
The Hoxie seventh-grade boys defeated Harrisburg 38-27.
Hoxie held Harrisburg scoreless in the second quarter and allowed the Hornets only two points in the third period. The Mustangs led 33-16 heading into the final period.
Hoxie was led by Robert Vaughn with 16 points, while Jake Ellis added eight points.
