players honored

Several Hoxie Mustang football players have received post-season recognition for their play during the 2008 season.

Derek Johnson and Clay Hart were named to the Class 3A All-State first team.

Johnson, a senior offensive and defensive lineman, was also named to the Associated Press Super Team. He has given a verbal commitment to play for the University of Texas.

Hart led the Mustangs in total offense with 1,239 yards. The senior quarterback completed 49-of-102 pass attempts for 756 yards and eight touchdowns. He also carried the ball 86 times for 483 yards and a team-high 12 rushing scores.

Blaine Middlecoff, Houston Waldrupe and Josh Cypret were named to the All-State second team.

Middlecoff, a senior running back, led Hoxie in all-purpose yards with 1,098. He was the Mustangs leading rusher with 933 yards on 149 carries and totaled 128 yards on kickoff returns. He scored six rushing touchdowns and had one touchdown reception.

Waldrupe, also a senior running back, rushed for 847 yards and eight touchdowns.

Cypret, a senior linebacker, led the Mustang defense in interceptions with four, one of which he returned for a touchdown.


In addition to the above-mentioned players, several Hoxie players received 3A-3 All-Conference honors.

Adam Madden shared the team lead in receptions with 14. He had 319 receiving yards and two scoring receptions. He totaled 386 all-purpose yards.

Cody West had a team-high three touchdown receptions and was Hoxie's co-leader in receptions with 14. He totaled 116 receiving yards and 156 all-purpose yards.

Brad Cook was Hoxie's leading scorer with 98 points. Cook amassed 282 yards rushing and 70 receiving. He scored 10 touchdowns and kicked 38 extra-points.

Cade Crisler, a junior defensive back, recorded two interceptions for the Mustangs.

Also making first-team All-Conference were senior lineman Thomas Brady and senior linebacker Corey Fountain.

Earning second-team All-Conference recognition was defensive back and punter David Sanders. Sanders had a 33.8-yard punting average and placed five punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

Also on the second team were linebackers Blake Snow and Dakota Richardson, and lineman Cody Varner.

Receiving honorable mention were Dylan Maxie, Tommy Stockton, Zac Wilson and Michael Cullum.

"The coaching staff is very proud of the efforts of these young men. The recognition and respect given to them by the coaches of the 3AAA conference is a great honor," said Hoxie head football coach Tom Sears.
