NEA tourney set
to begin Saturday
Teams from four Lawrence County schools will participate in the annual Northeast Arkansas Invitational Basketball Tournament, which begins Saturday at the ASU Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
The eight LawCo. teams will compete in the A-AA-AAA division.
In the boys bracket, Black Rock is the highest seeded county team. The 13th-seeded Zebras will open against 20th-seeded Weiner. No. 18 Hillcrest will play 15th-seeded Manila. No. 22 Walnut Ridge opens against 11th-seeded Marmaduke, and 28th-seeded Sloan-Hendrix opens with fifth-seeded Rivercrest.
On the girls' side of the bracket, the eighth-seeded Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles will play 25th-seeded Barton in the first round. The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats are seeded 11th and will open against 22nd-seeded McCrory. No. 13 Black Rock will face 20th-seeded Marked Tree. No. 19 Sloan-Hendrix will open against 14th-seeded Armorel.
The Hoxie Mustangs and Lady Mustangs will compete in the Kell Classic, which begins Jan. 3 at Swifton.
