Riverside boys claim WBC title
The Riverside Rebels defeated the Corning Bobcats 53-43 to claim the championship of the Williams Baptist College Tournament Saturday night at the Southerland-Mabee Center on the WBC campus.
The ninth-seeded Rebels earned coach Buster Campbell his 700th career win, while handing the third-seeded Bobcats their first loss of the season.
Riverside led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter. The game was tied 24-24 at halftime before the Rebels regained the lead in the third period and led 38-33 heading into the final quarter.
Jake Love scored 19 points to lead Riverside. Cody O'Guinn and Tyler Warhurst each added 12 points for the Rebels.
Corning was led by Kyle Harvey with 19 points, and Zack Brown with 14.
Hoxie ~ Corning
Brown scored 27 points for Corning, including 16 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Bobcats to a 65-55 win over seconded-seeded Hoxie in a boys semifinal contest Friday night.
Corning led 14-9 after one quarter, but the Mustangs rallied in the second period to take a 26-25 halftime lead. Hoxie carried a 37-34 lead into the fourth quarter, but was outscored by the Bobcats 31-18 in the final period.
Beau Sisco recorded a double-double for Hoxie with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Cade Crisler finished with 20 points, including four three-pointers, and seven assists. Justin Weitkamp, Nathan Ragsdell and Morgan Pruitt each scored three points.
Riverside advanced to the finals with a 63-59 win over fourth-seeded Pocahontas in the other boys semifinal game.
Blake Hogan led Riverside with 16 points. Matt Sullivan scored 19 points for the Redskins.
Hoxie ~ Hillcrest
The Hoxie Mustangs defeated Hillcrest 70-48 in a second-round game on Thursday.
Weitkamp recorded a double-double for the Mustangs with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Puckett had 15 points, and Sisco added 11. Joseph Richardson had seven points, and Ragsdell added six.
Derek Wooten led Hillcrest with 12 points, and Jordan Hunter added 10. Robert Jones and Lucas Navarette had five points apiece.
In other boys action, Corning defeated Marmaduke 58-48.
BR ~ Pocahontas
The Pocahontas senior boys defeated Black Rock 66-41 in second-round action on Dec. 2.
J.J. Nunally, Garrett Maronde and Joe Paul Carey each had eight points for Black Rock, and Les Foster scored six. Tadd Fore and Trent Moreledge each added three points.
BR ~ Tuckerman
Carey scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Black Rock to a 79-65 victory over Tuckerman in a first-round game on Dec. 1.
Foster had 14 points for the Zebras, and Tyler Roby added nine. Maronde finished with seven points, and Moreledge had six. Hunter Horton pulled down 10 rebounds for the Zebras.
Ninth-seeded Riverside upset Southside, the top seed in the boys bracket, 73-65 in a second-round matchup on Dec. 1.
