County teams face off in tourney
The 49th Annual Williams Baptist College Tournament tipped off Saturday at the Southerland-Mabee Center on the WBC campus. Four games were played in the girls bracket.
The eighth-seeded Hoxie Lady Mustangs advanced with a 65-53 win over Black Rock.
The game was tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter. Hoxie edged in front 30-28 at halftime and led 44-40 after three periods.
The Lady Mustangs pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Black Rock 21-13 in the final period to earn the win.
Hoxie was led by Tanya Sisco with 22 points, and Kelsey Lewis with 15.
Teri Aden scored 16 points to lead Black Rock. Hailey Slusser and Holly Beasley each scored eight points, and Amy Galbreath added seven for the Lady Zebras.
Sixth-seeded Hillcrest used a balanced scoring attack to defeat 11th-seeded Walnut Ridge 62-47.
Hillcrest led 20-11 after one quarter and 38-28 at halftime.
Natalie Johnson scored 14 points and Breanna Doyle and Amber Glenn each scored 13 for the Lady Screamin' Eagles.
Tamara Evans had nine points, and Miranda Doyle added six. Samantha Blevins finished with five points, and Stevie Howard recorded three.
Alivia Hackworth led the Lady Bobcats with 13 points. Chelsey Linebaugh had nine points, and Jessica Rudd added eight. Lacey Cobble finished with six points.
The fifth-seeded Tuckerman Lady Bulldogs raced to an 18-5 lead after one quarter and went on to defeat 12th-seeded Sloan-Hendrix 58-29.
Latricia Mans led the Lady Greyhounds with 10 points. Kara Morris had six points, and Kristin Belcher added five. Amy Green and Heather Armstrong each scored four points.
Maynard's Laura Bergman recorded a triple-double, but the 10th-seeded Lady Tigers fell to seventh-seeded Corning 57-49. Bergman finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Sarah Blackwell led Maynard in scoring with 19 points.
Whitney Groning had 19 points to lead the Lady Bobcats.
