Progress continues on Hwy 67The Arkansas State Highway Commission has announced that bids to perform site preparation for approximately 10 miles of future Highway 67 have been opened, and Geurin Contracting of Lynn, with a bid of $624,167.57, has been awarded the contract.According to Commissioner John Ed Regenold, the project will provide clearing, fencing and erosion control from Highway 230 northward to the Walnut Ridge/Hoxie bypass. "This is one of several projects that will provide a four-lane highway between Newport and Hoxie," Regenold said. The section of Highway 67 from Newport northward to Highway 226 is scheduled to open to traffic in 2009 and a grading project is underway from Highway 226 northward to Highway 230, according to Regenold. "Work could begin on the project in six to eight weeks, weather permitting," he said. The commission is expecting the clearing project to be completed by fall of 2009. Additional projects will be needed to complete the new roadway in the area.
