WR falls to Maynard
The Walnut Ridge Bobcats dropped their basketball season opener to the Maynard Tigers 59-56 Friday night at Sharum Gymnasium.
Bennett Dudley led Walnut Ridge with 18 points, and Chris Dickson added 13.
Maynard's Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead and withstood a comeback attempt by Walnut Ridge to defeat the Lady Bobcats 53-50 in senior girls basketball Friday night at Sharum Gymnasium.
Walnut Ridge was led by Alivia Hackworth with 19 points, three steals and six rebounds. Ashley Baker had nine points and two steals, and Carrie Massey had five points and 11 rebounds.
"I was really proud of these girls. We could have laid down after the first half, but we came out, played hard and had chances to win the game," said Lady Bobcats head coach Jason Ward.
The Walnut Ridge junior girls defeated Maynard 53-41.
Daniel Vaughn led Walnut Ridge with 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Ashley Roacho had 13 points and three assists. Audrey McElrath had 12 points and seven rebounds. Holly Looney had four points and eight rebounds, and Ashlyn Cothern had seven points.
Walnut Ridge defeated Melbourne in junior girls basketball on Thursday.
Katie Lewis had 17 points and eight rebounds. Roacho had 13 points and three steals. McElrath had seven points and five rebounds.
The Walnut Ridge seventh grade girls defeated Melbourne 29-19.
Anna Bland and Jody Reithemeyer each scored 12 points. Hannah Massey had three points, and Caroline Kelley added two.
