Marked Tree's Michael Gray scored his fifth touchdown of the evening with just over a minute to play and gave the Indians a 33-28 victory over the Walnut Ridge Bobcats in front of a homecoming crowd Friday night at Sexton Field.

Gray's winning score capped a 26-point fourth quarter by the Indians, who rallied to win a wild back-and-forth shootout, which saw the lead change hands five times, three times in the fourth quarter alone.

Marked Tree got on the scoreboard first when Gray scored on a nine-yard run in the first quarter, after the defense had picked off a Bobcat pass.

Walnut Ridge tied the game in the second quarter on a one-yard quarterback sneak by Jared Blackwell and Tim Cummins' PAT.

Following a Marked Tree turnover, Blackwell hit Logan Gaither in the corner of the end zone from two yards out with nine seconds to play in the half. Cummins' extra point sent the Bobcats into the locker room with a 14-7 halftime lead.

Walnut Ridge added to its lead when Blackwell connected with Gaither on a 17-yard scoring pass with 5:52 remaining in the third quarter. Cummins' PAT put the Bobcats ahead 21-7.

Marked Tree cut the Bobcats' lead to 21-13 when Gray scored on a 24-yard run on the second play of the fourth quarter. Gray then scored on a 44-yard dash with 9:51 to play. The two-point conversion tied the game at 21-21.

Marked Tree took the lead on a six-yard run by Gray with 5:51 to play in the game. A missed extra point attempt left the Indians with a 27-21 lead.

Walnut Ridge tied the game on a 12-yard run by Blackwell. Cummins' extra point gave the Bobcats a 28-27 lead with 4:38 to play, setting the stage for Gray's game-winner.

"We had our chances, but in the end, we just didn't have an answer for their running back. We are competing every Friday and as long as our kids stay focused, we'll be alright," said Walnut Ridge head coach Larry Treadway.

Blackwell completed 9-of-18 passes, for 130 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Gaither finished with eight catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

Preston Matthews led the Bobcats in rushing with 36 yards on eight carries.

On defense for Walnut Ridge, William Wilcoxson had 12 tackles and a fumble recovery. Gaither had 12 tackles and an interception, and Bennett Dudley had 10 tackles.

Walnut Ridge is now 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference. After an open date this week, the Bobcats next game is at Rector on Oct. 24.
