Bobcat golfers finish
fourth at state tourney
The Walnut Ridge High School golf team competed in the Class 2A State Tournament Monday on the Golf Course on Turkey Mountain at Horseshoe Bend.
The Bobcats shot a team score of 264 to finish in fourth place, one shot behind Salem and four strokes behind runner-up Lead Hill. Conway St. Joseph captured the state title with a score of 222.
Individually for Walnut Ridge, John-Scott Kelley finished third overall with a score of 77. Matt Ryan shot an 84, good for 10th place overall, and Wesley Davis recorded a 103.
The top 11 golfers were named All-State, giving Walnut Ridge two picks.
Kelley's third-place finish qualified him for the Overall State Tournament to be held Oct. 15 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock. The top 18 golfers in the state will compete in the Overall Tournament.
"I am extremely proud of all three guys for hanging in there under tough
playing conditions," said Walnut Ridge golf coach Derek Bramlett. "They could have easily given up and not played as well as they did.
