Lady Bobcats qualify for
gold bracket at Playday

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats senior high volleyball team participated in the ASU Playday on Saturday at Jonesboro.

Walnut Ridge opened pool play by defeating Trumann 25-14, 25-15.

"The girls came out ready to play," said Lady Bobcats head coach Lindy Baker.

"I'm always worried they will not be awake that early in the morning, but they really surprised me."

Amber Caldwell was 11-of-12 serving, with two aces, five assists and a dig. Lacey Cobble was 12-of-12 serving, with three aces and four kills. Sam Knight was 5-of-6 from the line, with an ace and two digs. Chelsey Linebaugh was 10-of-12 from the line, with four aces and eight assists. Carrie Massey had two kills and a block. Josie Wagoner was 4-of-4 serving, with four kills and three digs, and Amanda Emison was 2-of-3 serving, with four digs and four kills.

In the second match of pool play, Walnut Ridge lost to St. George's, the eventual winner of the Gold Division Tournament. The Lady Bobcats then split with Southland 17-25, 25-19 to finish second in pool play and earn a spot in the Gold Division Tournament.

"We were very excited to be there. We were playing on the main court at ASU. The girls had never played on the main floor. It was an exciting experience for them, as well as for me," said Baker.

The Lady Cats opened tournament play with a loss to Greene County Tech, 14-25, 19-25.

"We had played against Tech all summer in playdays. All summer long, it seemed like we were so close to beating them, so I was excited about getting one more chance to play them. The girls played hard, but we came up just a little short again," Baker said.

Caldwell was 6-of-7 serving, with three aces. Cobble was 5-of-5 from the line, with seven digs and two kills. Linebaugh was 8-of-8 from the line, with three aces. Knight served 4-of-4 and had six digs, and Emison was 4-of-5 from the line, with eight digs.

In their final game of the tournament, Walnut Ridge squared off against West Memphis. The Lady Cats came out firing and won the first game 25-23. West Memphis rallied to win the next two games, 25-17 and 15-9.

Cobble was 7-of-8 serving, with eight kills and seven digs. Knight was 8-of-10 from the line, with two aces and 10 digs. Linebaugh had 10 assists and five digs. Emison was 6-of-8 serving and had 10 digs. Wagoner was 9-of-9 serving and had eight digs, and Massey had six kills.

Ridgefield Christian

The Walnut Ridge senior and junior high teams picked up wins against Ridgefield Christian on Thursday at Jonesboro.

The senior Lady Cats won their match in three games 25-8, 25-10, 25-14.

Caldwell was 13-of-13 serving, with eight aces. Cobble was 12-of-12 serving, with seven aces. Knight served 9-of-10, with four aces. Regan Jean was 7-of-7 from the line, with an ace, and Ashton Lawson was 4-of-5 serving.

The junior Lady Cats defeated Ridgefield Christian 25-18, 25-11.

Jeri Poole was 10-of-10 serving, with two aces. Christin Holsapple was 7-of-8 from the line, with three aces. Brittney Dobbs was 8-of-10 serving, with four aces. Tayler Ginn was 11-of-12 serving, with eight aces, and Katie Lewis had five kills.
