Junior Lady Mustangs
compete in tournament

The Hoxie junior high volleyball team competed in the Junior Blazer Blast at Valley View over the weekend.

The junior Lady Mustangs opened pool play by defeating Brookland 25-11, 25-19.

In the second game of pool play, Hoxie lost to Paragould 9-25, 11-25. Westside defeated Hoxie 25-5, 25-13 in the third match of pool play. The Lady Mustangs closed pool play by splitting with McArthur 23-25, 25-23.

Hoxie finished third in pool play and was the top seed in the Silver bracket. After receiving a bye in the first round, the junior Lady Mustangs were defeated by Trumann 23-25, 25-16, 15-4.

For the tournament, Hali Pratt had 10 kills, seven digs and six assists. Emily Freer had 18 digs and three kills. Sarah Manis was 30-of-30 from the service line, with four aces, 10 kills and 11 assists. Maddison Woodard was 18-of-20 serving, with six aces, 13 digs and five kills. Alyssa Coggins was 18-of-20 from the line, with five aces, 15 digs, 14 kills and five blocks. Courtney Sears had 23 digs, four kills and two blocks.

Coggins and Pratt were named to the All-Tournament team.


The Hoxie senior and junior high teams lost to Piggott on Thursday at Hoxie.

Piggott won the senior high match 25-15, 25-15, 25-16.

Chasity Becker had six assists. Courtney Jones had four digs and four kills, and Kelsey Lewis had six kills. Brianna Liscomb and Devine Wilson each had three kills.

In the junior high match, Piggott defeated Hoxie 23-25, 25-15, 25-13.

Pratt had an ace, three kills and three assists. Freer had an ace and two kills. Manis went 7-of-7 from the line, with an ace, two kills and 10 assists. Coggins had four digs and eight kills.

Ridgefield Christian

The senior Lady Mustangs defeated Ridgefield Christian 25-4, 25-8, 25-14 on Sept. 16 at Hoxie.

Becker had five kills and three assists. Jones had seven aces and 10 kills. Shayla Coats had three aces and two digs. Erika Manis was 7-of-7 from the line, with three digs. Lewis had five kills. Liscomb had two kills, and Wilson had three. Amanda Whaley was 18-of-18 from the line and had six assists.

Ridgefield Christian won the junior high matchup 25-23, 25-16.

Sarah Manis was 7-of-7 from the line, with an ace and four assists. Coggins had two digs and four kills. Sears had two digs and two kills, and Woodard had a kill.


The Hoxie volleyball teams lost to Harrisburg on Sept. 15 at Hoxie.

Harrisburg won the senior high match 9-25, 27-25, 25-23, 25-20.

Becker had seven kills and 12 assists. Jones had nine digs, seven kills and three blocks. Erika Manis was 17-of-17 from the line and had seven digs. Lewis had six digs, 13 kills and six blocks. Kassie Teel had four kills. Kelsey Dobbs was 7-of-7 from the line and had six digs. Whaley had nine assists. Devine Wilson had four assists and two kills, and Liscomb had two digs and a kill.

The Hoxie junior high team lost a pair of barnburners to the junior Lady Hornets 23-25, 23-25.

Pratt went 7-of-9 from the line, with two aces and a kill. Freer had two digs and a kill. Coggins had two digs and two kills. Sears had three aces, two digs and a kill. Woodard had two digs and a kill, and Sarah Manis had two assists and a kill.
