WR splits games with Brookland
Staff Writer Walnut Ridge hosted Brookland in high school volleyball on Sept. 9 with the teams splitting the four matches played. Brookland won the senior high match 25-11, 25-16, 25-21. For Walnut Ridge, Sam Knight and Amanda Emison were both 10-of-10 serving. Brookland won the junior high contest 25-22, 25-19. Christin Holsapple was 10-of-10 serving and had a kill. Brittney Dobbs was 8-of-8 serving, with two digs. Tayler Ginn and Katie Lewis each had a block. Walnut Ridge picked up wins in the senior B match 25-17, and in the seventh grade contest 15-12, 15-13, 12-15.
The Lady Bobcats faced the CRA Lady Falcons on Sept. 8 at Paragould. CRA won the senior high match 25-22, 25-13, 25-21. Amber Caldwell was 10-of-13 serving, with three aces. Lacey Cobble went 6-of-6 serving, with five kills and nine digs. Sam Knight was 5-of-5 from the service line, with three kills and 11 digs. Chelsey Linebaugh served 15-of-16, with two aces, six kills and six assists. Amanda Emison was 9-of-9 serving, with an ace, four kills, 16 digs and a block. Carrie Massey had two kills and two blocks. "The girls played so hard that night, not to come up with a win is disappointing. I know that if they continue to play as hard as they have been, everything will begin to fall into place," said Walnut Ridge head coach Lindy Baker. The Walnut Ridge junior high also fell to CRA. Jeri Poole went 6-of-8 from the line, with an ace and five assists. Dobbs was 7-of-8 serving, with an ace, three kills and two assists. Holsapple had five digs and three kills, and Ginn had five digs. The Walnut Ridge junior B team defeated CRA 25-8, 25-12.
