Mustangs run over Mountain View

Hoxie's Brad Cook rushed for four touchdowns and kicked six PATs to account for 30 points, as the Mustangs routed the Mountain View Yellow Jackets 48-14 Friday night at Mountain View.

Cook wasted no time in getting the Mustangs on the board, scoring on a two-yard run and adding the extra-point for a 7-0 lead with 11:05 to play in the first quarter.

Houston Waldrupe extended Hoxie's lead on a 19-yard run with 5:10 remaining in the quarter. Cook's PAT made it 14-0 in favor of the Mustangs.

Mountain View cut the Mustangs' lead to 14-6 on a 52-yard run with 3:29 left in the opening period. The conversion attempt was no good.

Hoxie took command of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 20-0 in the period.

The Mustangs' defense got things started in the period when Josh Cypret intercepted a Mountain View pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown. Cook's extra point made it 21-6.

Cook found the end zone for the second time on an 11-yard run with 2:35 to play in the half. His extra-point put Hoxie ahead 28-6.

Cook scored his third touchdown on a five-yard run with just 40 seconds to play in the half. The conversion attempt was no good, but the Mustangs took a commanding 34-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.

A touchdown and two-point conversion by Mountain View trimmed Hoxie's lead to 34-14 early in the third period, but those proved to be the Yellow Jackets final points of the evening.

Cook scored his fourth and final touchdown on an eight-yard run with 7:45 to play in the third period. The extra-point gave the Mustangs a 41-14 advantage.

Hoxie's final touchdown came on a 73-yard run by Blaine Middlecoff with 5:14 remaining in the third quarter. Cook's sixth extra-point set the final score.

Hoxie amassed 502 yards of total offense, including 389 yards rushing.

Waldrupe led the Mustangs' ground attack with 134 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries. Middlecoff added 120 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Cook finished with 39 yards and four touchdowns on seven carries. Zach Wilson carried five times for 33 yards. Quarterback Clay Hart rushed twice for 22 yards. Blake Snow had six carries for 22 yards. Josh Cypret carried twice for 16 yards, and Cade Crisler carried once for three yards.

Hart completed 6-of-7 pass attempts for 113 yards.

Cypret led the Mustangs' defense with 14 tackles. Corey Fountain had seven tackles and recovered a fumble. Crisler recorded six tackles, and Adam Madden had five.

Players of the week were Waldrupe on offense, Cypret on defense and Cook on special teams.

Hoxie is on the road again this week, when the Mustangs visit the Highland Rebels. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
