Frankly speaking...J.W. (Johnny) Recker, who died Friday, at 93, was a retired farmer. Mr. Recker served on the board at First National Bank, where he rarely missed a meeting and attended as recently as last month. His daughters shared that less than a month ago he was bush-hogging the property around his home. Other memories shared by his three daughters were of family times spent on the river on a houseboat that he built, of flying with their dad in his airplane and of he and his wife, Exa, taking many trips in their motor home. He also strived to pass on the habit of "saving a nickel of every dime" earned to his family.
It was an exciting week of football, with all the home teams winning. The Walnut Ridge Bobcats, Hoxie Mustangs, ASU Red Wolves and U. of A. Razorbacks each won, although the scores and circumstances varied greatly.
I have only attended a couple of the annual Old Walnut Ridge reunions, but I have been surprised by the large number of citizens, who live both here and elsewhere, who grew up or have ties to Old Walnut Ridge.
