MANLEY CHAPEL BEGINS ASCENT ~ Work is progressing rapidly on Manley Chapel at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge. On Friday, a construction crew from Tate General Contractors was pouring concrete pillars. The chapel will stand over 50 feet tall, contain over 8,000 square feet and seat 550 people. The expected completion date is June of '09. Steve Manley, CEO of Universal Asset Management, which operates a plant at the nearby Walnut Ridge Regional Airport, committed over $1 million toward its construction.

School election to be Tuesday

Patrons of the Hoxie School District will go to the polls Tuesday to decide a school board race. Lonnie Owen Smith of Hoxie and Jeff Moskop of Sedgwick are vying for the position.

to election commission

The Quorum Court has approved measures to compensate the Lawrence County election commissioners for their work, as well as provide them with a place to complete their tasks.

A delegation from Lawrence County was in Corning Aug. 28 to attend a meeting of the Missouri/Arkansas Highway 67 Coalition.
