Season opener results in
close loss for Lady Cats

Walnut Ridge hosted Cave City to begin the 2008 volleyball season on Aug. 25.

The senior Lady Bobcats dropped a thrilling five-game match to the Cavewomen 20-25, 25-16, 9-25, 27-25, 15-17.

Chelsey Linebaugh was a perfect 20-of-20 serving, with six aces for Walnut Ridge. Amber Caldwell was 11-of-12 serving, with five aces and had three assists. Lacey Cobble was 13-of-15 serving and had one kill. Sam Knight served 6-of-7, Josie Wagoner served 10-of-11 and Amanda Emison was 9-of-9 from the service line.

"We played a hard five-game match in the season opener. The girls are working hard and are improving in each practice," said Walnut Ridge head coach Lindy Baker.

The Walnut Ridge junior high team defeated Cave City in three games 23-25, 25-18, 25-10.

Brittney Dobbs went 17-of-21 serving, with nine aces. Tayler Ginn was 7-of-7 serving, and Holly Looney served 6-of-7. Daniel Vaughn had a block.

Walnut Ridge also picked up wins in the seventh grade, junior B and senior B contests.


The Lady Bobcats opened conference play last Thursday against Harrisburg at Walnut Ridge. Harrisburg won the senior high match 21-25, 22-25, 21-25.

For Walnut Ridge, Lacey Cobble had six kills and served 10-of-10 with an ace. Carrie Massey had two kills and two blocks. Regan Jean served 5-for-5 and Wagoner served 7-for-8 with an ace. Amanda Emison was 5-of-6 serving, with an ace and had six tips for kills.

"The girls are playing smarter on the floor and are coming together as a team," said Baker. Harrisburg won the junior high contest 23-25, 22-25.

Jeri Poole was 9-of-9 serving and Ginn served 7-of-8. Looney served 9-of-11 and had a block. Vaughn had two kills and a block.

Walnut Ridge recorded wins in the senior B and junior B matches.
