Josh and Tricia Smith of Paragould have announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, born Aug. 18, 2008, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.
The baby weighed six pounds, seven ounces, and has been named Rylee Lynn Smith.
Grandparents are Keith and Gina Smith of Walcott and Ernie and Carol Pruett of Paragould. L.V. and Lugene Smith and Bill and Mary Noles, all of Walcott, are the great-grandparents, and Marlu Noles, also of Walcott, is the great-great-grandmother.
Stephanie Lyn Beasley became the bride of Jason Louis Mondy in a ceremony solemnized on Aug. 8, 2008, at the Imboden United Methodist Church.
Parents of the couple are Mary Beasley of Powhatan, Billy Beasley of Imboden and Jim and Janie Mondy of Pocahontas.
The bride is the granddaughter of Melvin and Carolyn Webster of Black Rock and attended Black Rock School.
The groom is the grandson of Mrs. Lee Mondy of Pocahontas and is a BRHS graduate.
Pastor Bob McMillon officiated the double-ring, semi-formal ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father.
She wore a formal gown by Mori Lee and carried a bouquet of wild flowers.
Andrea Beasley of O'Kean, sister-in-law of the bride, served as matron of honor, and best man was Jacob Mondy, son of the groom.
Heaven Beasley, niece of the bride, was flower girl and was escorted by Jordan Beasley, son of the bride. Kyler Callahan, son of the bride, served as ring bearer.
Ushers were Jonathon Beasley of Pocahontas, nephew of the bride, Jace Welsenbach of Maynard and Kainen Rogers, cousins of the groom.
Bride's book attendant was Cheyenne Webster of Black Rock, cousin of the bride. The program attendant was Maigen Rogers of Imboden, cousin of the groom.
A reception followed at the church's fellowship hall.
They are residing in Hoxie. The groom is owner of Mondy Construction and the bride is employed at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.
Dr. and Mrs. Michael Tucker announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Katherine Lee Alice Tucker of White Hall, to Stuart Price Allen of Beebe, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bart Voyles of Strawberry and Mary Lee Tucker Heard of White Hall and the late Bruce Tucker.
She is a 2005 graduate of White Hall High School. She is a senior at the University of Central Arkansas and will receive a degree in political science.
The prospective groom is the grandson of Josie Price of Berryville and the late Ben Price and Nora Allen of Beebe and the late J.T. Allen.
He is a 2004 graduate of Beebe High School and received a bachelor's degree in biology and economics from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. He has been accepted and will pursue a master's degree in petroleum engineering at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.
The couple will be united in marriage in a private ceremony Oct. 18 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Usery.
Neva Bethel Castleberry, 81, of Strawberry, died Aug. 25, 2008, at her home.
The daughter of Charlie and Tempie Gallaway Henson, she was a homemaker and was of the Baptist belief.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Castleberry; two sons, Tommy Castleberry and Timothy Castleberry; five brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include three daughters, Kay McEntire-Bowley, Chinnor, England, Sandy Whitehead, Jacksonville, Fla., and Debbie Moore, Lynn; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Friday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Lynn with Terrell Neely officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Danny Morgan, Shawn Durham, Kenny Townsley, John Moore, Jamie Nunnaly and Kenneth Reeves. Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Harris, Corey Bibb, Tony Francis and Chris Tyler.
Adyson Rita Jordan, 23-month-old niece of John and Margaret Jordan and cousin of Austin Jordan and Jessica Jordan, all of Hoxie, died Aug. 24, 2008, at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. Funeral was Wednesday, Aug. 27, at First Baptist Church in Lake City. John Randy Monroe, 59, of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 25, 2008, at Fort Gordon, Ga., while serving on active duty with the Arkansas National Guard.
Born April 18, 1949, in Walnut Ridge, he was a locksmith and was the owner of John's Lock and Key in Walnut Ridge. A Vietnam War veteran, he was active in the National Guard. He was a Mason and was of the Pentecostal belief.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cleatus Monroe Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Brewer Monroe, whom he married Feb. 12, 1983; a daughter, Jennifer DeMichele, Lanark, Ill.; a son, James Monroe, Biloxi, Miss.; his mother, Avo Stroud Monroe, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Ronnie Monroe, Houston, and Richard Monroe, Walnut Ridge; a sister, Angela Blackshear, Walnut Ridge; and six grandchildren, Dominic DeMichele, Dawson DeMichele, Danielle Monroe, Alexis DeGutis, Bailey DeMichele and Peyton DeMichele.
Graveside service was Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Hope Cemetery at Imboden with Glen Chadwick officiating. Full military honors were accorded at graveside. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Mary Lou Shockley, 66, of Bland, Mo., died Aug. 31, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital in Overland Park, Kan.
Born Feb. 17, 1942, at Alicia, she was a retired telephone traffic engineer supervisor for Southwestern Bell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Bessie Holder Dobbs.
Survivors include her husband, Wendell Shockley, whom she married Sept. 23, 1974, in Miami, Okla.; a son, Scott Shockley, White Lake, Mich.; a daughter, Lisa Orrick and husband Dave, Lee's Summit, Mo.; four sisters, Mona Kay, Jonesboro, Jean Fix, Cabot, Shirley Lowe, Edwards, Mo., and Pat Nichols, Walnut Ridge; and a granddaughter, Jane Orrick.
Funeral is Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Sassmann's Funeral Home in Bland, Mo. Burial will be in Countryside Memorial Gardens, near Owensville, Mo.
Visitation is tonight at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Roy Lee Walker, 68, of Jonesboro, father of Katherin Spargo of Hoxie, died Aug. 31, 2008, at his home. Burial was Tuesday in Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro. An online guestbook is available at www.emersonfuneralhome.com.
Mildred L. Whitmire, 94, of Black Rock, died Aug. 30, 2008, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.
Born Aug. 15, 1914, at Alicia, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Susie Kirtley Light. She was a custodian and a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal belief.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Whitmire,whom she married on Sept. 25, 1932; a daughter, Shelby Hutton; a sister; and 10 brothers.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Whitmire, West Plains, Mo.; a daughter, Linda Johnson, Black Rock; a sister, Ruby Light, Walnut Ridge; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral is today at 2 p.m. in Bryan Chapel with Bro. Wayne Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ladell Light, Ronnie Light, Ben Light, Larry Light, Gary Light and James Lavell.
