YOUTH ASSIST WITH SHELTER ~ Ashley Harris and other youth from First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge were among those who painted and cleaned at a workday held Tuesday at The Children's Shelter. Paul Fisher, youth minister at First Baptist Church, said he tries to incorporate some type of service ministry into the youth program monthly. Efforts continue to ready the emergency shelter for opening.

Gravel issue
at meeting

After a lengthy discussion on the use of Sharp County gravel on Lawrence County roads, the Quorum Court voted unanimously to uphold the work of County Road Foreman Keith Freeman and Lawrence County Judge Alex Latham.

2008 LawCo. Fair
schedule announced

The 84th annual Lawrence County Fair and Livestock Show for 2008 will be held August 19-23. Pre-Fair week events are scheduled for the end of this week.

Quick response
saves Brand's life

Five days after a near-fatal automobile accident, Ben Brand of Walnut Ridge was showing rapid improvement, and his prognosis for recovery is good. He was to be moved by today from the trauma intensive care unit to the step-down or standard intensive care unit at The Elvis Presley Trauma Center ~ The Med in Memphis, where he is a patient.

Fair continues
to be important
community event

This year marks the 84th anniversary of the Lawrence County Fair. Historically speaking the fair may have actually started somewhat earlier perhaps even as early as 1920.
