Three juveniles arrested for
community center damage
Three juvenile males were arrested last week in connection with the break-ins and vandalism at the Walnut Ridge Community Center on July 25 through July 27.
According to Walnut Ridge Police Department Detective David Burnside, after news of the break-ins aired on KAIT-TV and appeared in newspapers one of the boys told his grandparents he was involved in the incidents. The grandparents called the police.
The boy was arrested last Thursday and the two others were arrested on Friday.
Information from the public led to the questioning of the two arrested on Friday, who also confessed to their part in the vandalism.
Two of the boys are from Walnut Ridge and one is from Hoxie, according to Burnside. "They came in for questioning with their parents and signed written confessions," he said.
They were arrested, charged and released to the custody of their parents. They will remain under house arrest until their September court date.
The boys have been charged with breaking or entering and criminal mischief, both felony charges.
During three separate break-ins at the community center over a three-day period, the boys spray painted fabric seats and chair sides, carpeting, walls and a piano, as well as dance recital trophies, props and recordings that were to have been used at Main Street Dance's recital on July 26.
Many other items were damaged as well, bringing damages to an estimated cost of more than $6,000.
Their cases will be tried in juvenile court.
