Library moving date set
Lawrence County Library Director Ashley Burris has announced dates for the Walnut Ridge library's move into its new downtown building.
We plan to close Monday, Aug. 18, through Sept. 1," Burris said. "We will reopen Sept. 2 at the Walnut Street address."
The Library Board and the Lawrence County Quorum Court recently reached an agreement that will allow the library to use space in the Lawrence County Community Building, which was donated to the county by Bob and Paula Hutcherson.
The county, in turn, will convert the current library building into a second courtroom.
The Community Building, which formerly housed Hutcherson Furniture and Cole Furniture, also includes a large meeting room for government and community use.
Burris said they hope to complete all the work in the two-week period, but the emphasis will be on having books on the shelves and circulation up and running.
Any patrons who have books checked out that are due during the two-week closing period are encouraged to keep them until the library reopens at the new location.
The library has been at its present location, 1315 West Main, since approximately 1984. The current library building was originally Goings Pharmacy.
Prior to that time, the library was housed in the 200 block of Southwest Second Street, where, most recently, The Good Life was located.
