Sue Dry has been appointed as mayor of Portia, filling a vacancy left by the resignation of Dale Freeman last month. Dry, a life-long resident of Portia, accepted the position at the July 15 city council meeting and was sworn into office by Justice of the Peace Craig Stone who was in attendance.
"I think she'll do a good job," Alderman Tim Allison said of Dry. "She cares about the town and wants to get things done."
Dry had been serving as an alderman, so her appointment as mayor left a vacancy on the council.
In a special meeting held Friday, Mike Couch was appointed by the council to fill the alderman position.
In addition, the council accepted the resignation of City Treasurer Janet Orrick effective July 31. Orrick, like Freeman, is no longer a resident of Portia.
