Plaque honors Judge Ponder



The Walnut Ridge City Council had no new business or old business on the agenda at A plaque in memory of Harry L. Ponder Jr. was dedicated on July 9 at the Lawrence County Courthouse. Among those on hand for the dedication were (from left): Dick Jarboe, Yvonne Phillips, Anne Snapp and Jimmy Snapp.
The Lawrence-Randolph County Bar Association has presented a plaque to hang in the ounty Courthouse in memory of Harry L. Ponder Jr.

County Judge Alex Latham issued a proclamation that the plaque be permanently placed in the courtroom.

The plaque reads:

"In memory of Harry L. Ponder Jr., Feb. 19, 1911 ~ Feb. 2, 2006. This plaque is placed in the courtroom to honor the memory of a truly great lawyer, judge and person. Harry was a role model to all lawyers who had the opportunity to know him. We are better because he lived amongst us."

Several local lawyers, county officials, court employees and others who worked with Ponder were on hand for the dedication.
