Concerns discussed at Hoxie meeting

More than 30 residents attended the Hoxie City Council Meeting last Tuesday, and concerns were expressed over several topics.

Justices hear recommendation
for rural fire
protection district

Walnut Ridge Fire Chief Alan Haskins addressed the Quorum Court regarding establishing a rural fire protection district for the area surrounding the city limits of Walnut Ridge.

Freeman resigns as Portia mayor

Portia Mayor Dale Freeman has stepped down from that position. He issued the following statement on Monday:

mosquitoes, fireworks display

The Walnut Ridge City Council had no new business or old business on the agenda at their July 8 meeting, but aldermen discussed the city's Fourth of July fireworks show and mosquito control during their open forum.

Plaque honors Judge Ponder

The Lawrence-Randolph County Bar Association has presented a plaque to hang in the ounty Courthouse in memory of Harry L. Ponder Jr.
