Frankly speakingPlease take time to read and view the special section saluting the Polar Freeze and Jack and Velma Allison's 50 years of ownership. Most everyone has a Polar Freeze story, and some of those are shared in the salute. For many in my generation, the Polar Freeze was the teenage hangout of the '70s and early '80s. Now, if a former resident or visitor is in Walnut Ridge during mealtime, you will most likely find them eating there.
I thought my sister and brother-in-law were the exception when they recently ordered Polar Freeze barbecue shipped to them in Brooklyn, N.Y. However, Velma Allison shared that they have shipped barbecue many places and that others have taken the barbecue with them when traveling to see family members in such places as California, Germany or Brazil.
We congratulate and send our best wishes to two young Walnut Ridge women who are competing this month in state pageants. ShayLee Lawhon is competing this week in the Arkansas Outstanding Teen Pageant in Hot Springs, while Hollyann Crum will compete in the Miss Arkansas Pageant July 16-19 in Hot Springs. ShayLee became eligible to compete in MAOT when she was crowned Miss Heartland of the South in Paragould. Hollyann is going to the Miss Arkansas Pageant as the winner of the Miss Lights of the Delta Pageant in Blytheville.
